A charity event which would have raised hundreds of pounds towards a new West Sussex community centre has been cancelled because of insurance worries.
Angmering residents were due to take part in a fun run at the end of this month to celebrate the opening of the village's new bypass.
All money raised would have gone towards building a new centre on land set aside by developers on the village's new 600-house Bramley Green estate.
Road builders had given residents permission to hold the run on the bypass the day before it opened but Angmering parish councillors have been forced to axe the event after realising it would incur high insurance costs.
Council chairman John King said: "It became apparent very quickly as the arrangements progressed that there was going to be a big problem over insurance so we have regretfully decided to cancel the fun run."
David Boreham, headteacher of St Margaret's Primary School, said: "There's a lot of disappointment among the pupils who wanted to take part. It would have been a real community event."
