The lack of a bus shelter at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, is simply not good enough when Brighton and Hove City Council is doing all it can to encourage residents to travel by public transport and leave the car at home whenever possible.
Local King's Cliff councillors Gill Mitchell, Betsy Brewer and Ian Duncan have also expressed their concern at the lack of shelter.
I have instructed senior transport officers to find a way to install a temporary shelter outside the hospital as a matter of urgency.
I am delighted to say the response was that it would be in place by next week. In the short term, this will protect hospital visitors and outpatients from the elements.
A permanent shelter is planned in conjunction with the expansion of the hospital. Construction should begin in about three months' time. I am sorry the council has not acted faster to sort this out
