I was sorry to learn of the death of my good friend Sir Philip Ward, KCVO, CBE.
I had been in contact with him for the past five years since he came to Shoreham Airport on August 20, my 68th birthday.
Even though he was a Major General, he put me at ease straight away when he unveiled my war memorial.
Many friends met and spoke to him and all said what a charming, unassuming and modest man he was.
My thoughts go out to Lady Pamela and family. Sir Philip was one of the best and will be sadly missed by so many who have known and worked with him.
