NHS chiefs say an outbreak of gastro-enteritis at Eastbourne District General Hospital has been largely contained, despite several new victims falling ill.
More than 40 staff and patients at the Eastbourne District General Hospital were struck down with the stomach bug last week.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said today: "We only have one ward still closed at the moment and we only had a few new cases over the weekend.
"Our infection control team are constantly assessing patients but we think we are over the worst of it now."
Non-urgent operations were cancelled as a result of the outbreak and several wards were closed to new arrivals.
Visitors were advised to wash their hands after leaving wards to help stop the bug spreading.
Gastro-enteritis is a virus which is common at this time of year. Symptoms include diarrhoea and vomiting.
