I was interested to read the letter from a member of the Older People's Council (Letters, January 7) referring to the possibility of the withdrawal of concessionary fares from pensioners.
The writer did not mention that, from April, concessionary fares before 9am for older people and disabled people of all ages will be withdrawn.
Only last week, a friend told me she would be affected because she would have to pay full fare on the buses rather than the reduced fare of 50 pence.
Voluntary organisations provide an important service to the community and many volunteers need to be at their post by 9am or before, as in the business world.
My friend, on approaching the Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company, was told Brighton and Hove City Council was responsible and there was no longer any money available.
