In November there was an article in The Sentinel headed "Slum terrace in Clifton Road".
The cottages were old but never slums. This road was and still is a nice road.
I am one of six sisters, five of us born in the cottages where Clifton Court now stands.
Our parents worked very hard, as did all our neighbours.
The cottages were kept painted inside and out and were very clean.
Some tenants paid to have electricity installed.
The street had every sort of shop, each cottage had a big garden and everyone grew all the vegetables they needed.
When we grew up and married, three of us were each able to rent a cottage as they became vacant and lived there very happily.
Mine was gas-lit and had no water indoors but, believe me, bathing in front of a roaring coal fire was bliss. I always enjoyed it.
When the council took them over and rehoused us all, they were still not slums and we looked after our property until the end.
I have never regretted becoming a council tenant. We were given nice homes and were well looked after.
