A driver was taken to hospital with multiple injuries after his car hit a tree.
The car was travelling along the A272 one mile west of Buckbarn, near West Grinstead, at about 3pm yesterday, when it careered off the road into a tree at the junction with Shipley Road and Southwater.
The 30-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Haywards Heath accident and emergency ward.
PC Tony Oliver of the Horsham road policing unit attended the scene.
He said police were still investigating the cause, but they believed the man may have braked and lost control of the car after seeing another vehicle come out of the junction.
