The mayor of Worthing got to see the sharp end of policing yesterday.
Eric Mardell started his tour at Worthing Police Station in Union Place where he was welcomed by Chief Inspector Russ Whitfield.
He went out on patrol with local officers and later got to visit the new £90 million custody suite at Highdown police headquarters in Durrington.
Chief Insp Whitfield said: "I showed the mayor that increasing visibility and public confidence is at the heart of what we are doing.
"The review will see the police station opening longer, more officers on patrol and a better service to the community.
"I also emphasised to him my commitment to the pro-active policing of Worthing and that I aim to build on December's 'Day of Action'.
"The message we are sending out is that if you are an active criminal in Worthing, you can expect us to call on a regular basis.
"Not only that but with the police district aligned to the local authority, we can be even more effective partners in this active community."
