Active over-50s are invited to an open day at a sports and leisure club.

The Phoenix Club, which meets at Worthing Leisure Centre in Shaftsbury Road every Friday, is hosting an open day on January 24 at 9am.

The day will include conducted tours to see the range of activities on offer and the chance to take part in exercise sessions.

Later in the morning there will be the chance to take part in a t'ai chi taster session and, after lunch, see a keyboard and exercise ball demonstration, an introduction to table tennis and the chance to try out racket sports and short-mat bowls.

From 2pm to 4pm an art tutor will give a marine painting demonstration and the art group will exhibit some of their recent work.

The Phoenix Club was formed in 1996 as a morning club and, after proving popular, was also extended to include the afternoon.

As well as sports, the club also runs a series of lunchtime talks on the last Friday of each month, a social group which holds monthly events, and runs an annual sports and leisure holiday to Devon. Members also organise trips abroad.

Tickets for the open day cost £5 and include a buffet lunch. They are available from Worthing Leisure Centre reception or by calling 01903 502237 and quoting POD 5.

The £5 ticket is redeemable at the open day against membership of the leisure centre or Phoenix Club.
