A man was arrested today in connection with the rape of a student at Sussex University.
The man, in his 50s, was held in Brighton this morning and taken to the John Street police station where he was being questioned by detectives.
Police are awaiting results of DNA tests.
The victim, a 20-year-old undergraduate, was attacked on campus between 12.30am and 1.30am on Saturday.
She was walking past Bramber House, Falmer, when she was bundled down a flight of stairs.
The man threatened to kill her before assaulting her and running away.
The student tried to fight him off and bit his neck, drawing blood, before he escaped.
The university has stepped up security since the attack.
University authorities and the Students Union are helping the police inquiry and the university has handed over CCTV footage from the time of the incident.
