An MP is calling for clearer labelling of food additives and colourings that can affect children's behaviour.
Wealden MP Charles Hendry, the shadow minister for young people, has tabled the Food Colourings and Additives Labelling Bill in the House of Commons, which will be discussed by MPs on February 5.
Mr Hendry said: "There is growing evidence of a link between food colourings and additives and the behaviour of children and even potential links with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.
"My Bill will require certain colourings and additives to carry a label saying they could have an effect on the behaviour of some children.
"Many parents know children react to different foods but they should be warned about the potential consequences of what they feed their children."
Mr Hendry's concerns about the issue developed after contact with the Hyperactive Children's Support Group in Chichester, which has been involved in studies to establish a link between food and behaviour.
He said: "There is increasing awareness of the link and this Bill will help parents have a better understanding."
