I have lived in Wilson Avenue for 40 years in a bungalow. It is an area I love. In all those years, the people
of the avenue have put up with one aggravation after another. For any new proposed building scheme - be it hare-brained or otherwise - Sheepcote Valley is always earmarked. Why?
From incinerators and ski-slopes to cattle grazing, BMX tracks and, now, sewage.
When Southern Water was building the storm tunnel, all the excavated rubbish was dumped in Sheepcote and we had to put up for years with lorries trundling up all day, every day, covering the road and our houses and cars in white chalk dust. The promise was, when finished, Sheepcote would be landscaped into a park. Now it is one of the proposed sites for waste-treatment buildings. It does not make sense.
We have had enough hassle over the years - leave Sheepcote alone.
