Southern Water must find a site somewhere in the Brighton area for a modern sewage treatment works.
Soon Brighton and Hove will be the only coastal resort in Sussex not to benefit from up-to-date wastewater treatment and it will not meet European seawater standards.
The water giant has put forward eight possible sites between Shoreham and Newhaven for the plant following rejection of a scheme for Portobello, near Telscombe Cliffs, almost two years ago.
None is ideal because this is a crowded coastline. But as the company has already shown at other locations, including Eastbourne, it is possible to disguise these plants effectively.
Today, The Argus shows the company's impressions of how the sites would look after the plant had been installed.
Anyone who has an interest in these sites should say which one is the best.
If there are any better suggestions for dealing with sewage from a major coastal conurbation, Southern Water will be glad to hear of them.
When the Portobello plant was rejected, there was rejoicing by many people who felt the company had been misguided in wanting it there.
Now the message seems to be getting through - doing nothing is not an option.
