Sussex riders were hampered by the conditions in the latest round of the inaugural British Supermoto Championship.

Peacehaven's Richard Freshwater was seventh overall in the 450cc Championship going into last weekend's meeting at Snetterton while Heathfield's Dave Heal was fifth in the Open championship.

However, neither scored any points, which does not help their standings with three rounds of the series left.

Freshwater said: "There was lots of frost and ice around and everyone was crashing. It was the most dangerous thing I have done.

"I had two crashes and didn't carry on after that. It was just not worth smashing my bike up."

Negotiations are currently in place for a European Supermoto Championship. This fast-growing form of motorsport combines track and off-road racing.

It is already extremely popular in Europe, particularly France, and British riders are being offered free entry for the European series which includes rounds in Spain, Italy, Francis, Belgium, Greece and the Czech Republic. Freshwater and Heal are both hoping to take part.
