St Leonards' boss Gary Bowyer picked up his first point since taking charge a week ago to end a 12 match losing streak in the eastern division.
Bowyer was still disappointed, however, not to have taken all three points as Saints were pegged back by Spalding after taking a second-half lead.
Youngster Ben Watson put the hosts ahead with his first goal for the club in the 63rd minute, rifling a blistering shot into the roof of the net from 20 yards.
But that was put to waste by some slack defending as Saints went to sleep after conceding a free kick which Darren Cundy took quickly to set up Jamie Lawrence for the equaliser.
Bowyer said: "I thought we deserved to win it really. One mistake really cost us where we just switched off but the effort was unbelievable."
A good afternoon for the home team was soured slightly by Sean Ray's harsh dismissal for two bookable offences five minutes from time.
