The chief executive of the Grand Ocean Hotel, Saltdean, says 80 per cent of the rooms are sold for this year - but what about next year?
He says this type of business -meaning housing asylum seekers - accounts only for between six and 20 rooms. How long before that is 30-50 rooms and so on?
Who will want to pay for a holiday break at a hotel being used for emergency accommodation by asylum seekers? When paying guests start to dwindle, will the hotel put in for more asylum seekers?
Saltdean is a small community and simply cannot accommodate a large number of asylum seekers. You cannot see your own doctor for a week as it is and the local school is full.
There is a lot of alarm among many residents and there is a lot of anger on this U-turn after we were assured this proposal would not go ahead.
