The son of murdered millionaire Richard Watson has spoken for the first time since his father was gunned down six years ago.

Julian Watson said he was determined to help bring the killer to justice and he welcomed the decision by Sussex Police to reopen the investigation.

Richard Watson, 55, was murdered outside his luxury farmhouse in East Grinstead in 1996.

Police last week named convicted hitman Paul Jones as a prime suspect and announced plans to interview him as part of their new inquiry.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Dennis said Julian was very private.

"But he has spoken now because he is determined to see a conclusion to what has been six years of pain for him and his family."

Julian, 34, who lives in London, said: "I am very pleased Sussex Police has relaunched the investigation.

"I understand there are a number of people who have vital information. I appeal to those people to come forward now."

Mr Dennis said: "I know there are people out there who could make statements that would help us.

"I understand they may be frightened but I can assure them they will be afforded every protection."

Jones, an antiques dealer of Glen View, East Grinstead, was the first suspect interviewed in connection with the murder.

Last week he was jailed for 17 years for a bungled £100 contract killing.

He blasted the wrong man and left builder Ernie Broom, 57, from Worcester Park, an invalid.

Mr Dennis said there were similarities between the contract shooting and the murder of Mr Watson.

Police originally charged the victim's wife. Linda Watson, and daughter, Amanda Williams.

They were acquitted and awarded £25,000 interim damages for being wrongfully accused.

There is a £15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Mr Watson's killer.
