Eastbourne's MP today called for all new asylum seekers to be detained in centres until their cases have been examined.
Conservative Nigel Waterson said flagrant breaches in the asylum system boiled down to poor screening.
He called on the Government to detain new asylum seekers in secure but humane centres until their cases have been dealt with.
Mr Waterson spoke out following the killing of Special Branch detective Stephen Oake during an anti-terror raid on a flat in Manchester.
He said reports of terror suspects being asylum seekers were disturbing and he demanded immediate strengthening of the UK's asylum system.
"It is now imperative for Britain's security that every asylum seeker entering the country is security cleared.
"In my mind this must mean those applying are kept in secure detention until their case has been heard. Either they are allowed to stay as genuine refugees or they are instantly deported."
