Martin Comper scored twice as Oakwood dented Lancing's promotion hopes in Matthew Clark County League division two.
Lancing were knocked out of the promotion places following their 3-2 defeat at Oakwood and Rye's 1-0 win at Mile Oak.
Martin Gray had given Lancing a 17th minute lead but Oakwood dominated the rest of the half to lead 3-1 at the interval thanks to Comper's brace and a bobbling effort from Glen Woodburn.
Jamie Cole reduced the deficit in the second half but Oakwood held on and could have added a fourth when substitute Nathan Pullen fired a good effort just wide.
Rye and Iden United won at Mile Oak thanks to midfielder Scott Price's 25th goal of the season.
Price netted from a corner after the home team had spurned three opportunities to clear the ball.
Mile Oak had chances of their own with Tony Burnett's shot being stopped on the line and Peter Leeves just clearing the bar with a lob.
Their manager Anthony Whittington said: "That kind of performance would beat a lot of teams."
Second-placed East Grinstead warmed up for this Saturday's showdown with leaders Eastbourne Town by beating Oving 2-0 at East Court.
It took Grinstead 74 minutes to break the deadlock, Matt Thorpe heading home Dave Gellatly's left-wing cross. Gellatly added the second himself in injury time.
Wasps boss Bob Smith said: "We are still not playing as well as we can. There is a lot more to come from us but we're unbeaten in nine and have won six of those games which is good form."
At the other end of the table, Pease Pottage slipped back into the relegation places after losing 3-1 at home to Wealden.
Pottage's run of three successive wins was ended by goals from Lee Sale, Syd Harman and Danny Poulton. Scott Christensen pulled a goal back in the second half and Pottage were denied a second when Graham Leach saved Gareth Neathey's penalty.
Westfield moved above Pottage with a goalless draw at Saltdean. The home side had the better of proceedings, with Leigh Davis and Liam O'Brien both going close, but they finished with ten men after Dean McDonald was sent off for a second bookable offence 15 minutes from time.
Seaford and Broadbridge Heath both moved further clear of the relegation places with 2-0 wins.
Seaford beat Eastbourne United to stretch their revival to 13 points from the last 18. Chris Stanyard opened the scoring just before half time with an unstoppable shot and Mark Doherty added a second ten minutes into the second half with a rasping left-foot drive.
Broadbridge Heath took maximum points at Crawley Down thanks to goals from John Eldridge, who had been promoted from the reserves, and James Brown, with an effort from outside the penalty area.
Heath boss Allan Winton said: "We need to find consistency but if we continue to play like that we shouldn't have any problems."
In the Division Two Cup, Worthing United reached the semi finals with a 3-1 win at Shinewater Association thanks to goals from Richard Lomas, Peter Montgomery and Peter Raynsford. They now face Rye and Iden for a place in the final. Ollie Walton hit the lone reply.
