Plans to incorporate a town centre bar into an adjoining nightclub have been withdrawn.
Councillors were due to consider the scheme for the Light Bar in Chatsworth Road, Worthing, but the application was pulled before the meeting after planning experts recommended refusal.
The owners wanted to link the bar with the hugely-popular Liquid Lounge to increase the capacity of the club to 850 people.
The Warwick Residents' Association backed the idea, saying the venues were among the best in Worthing.
But the Guildbourne Court Residents'
Association objected "in the strongest possible terms", adding:
"We have been on the receiving end of a considerable amount of unsocial behaviour, vandalism, theft and noise from this and many other similar establishments."
Similar concerns were voiced by the Central Worthing Residents'
Association but the applicant responded by saying the club could run its own taxi service to get clubbers off the streets and home quicker.
But planners said the extension of the club would lead to more noise and disturbance in the early hours.
