The difference between refurbishing the flats in Denmark Road, Portslade, and demolishing and rebuilding them is just £12,000, according to a Brighton and Hove City Council survey.
This doesn't sound much for keeping 30 flats under local authority control rather than transferring them to a housing association that would charge higher rents and give tenants less secure tenancies.
Why is the council even considering this drastic action? More to the point, where do our grandchildren stand if council properties are continuously being transferred to housing associations?
