Voice of The Argus (January 22) gets into a jam in suggesting Brighton and Hove City Council is well known for not liking motorists.
I use a car. I use a cycle. I use the train, buses, taxis and even my legs to walk around the city. The key point of the council's attitude is it believes in horses for courses.
The fact that traffic in city centres across Britain nowadays moves no faster than horse transport is due to there being millions more cars on the roads.
What we have to do is to make it easier for people to use the most appropriate transport - the car when taking the kids to see granny, a train when we want to go to London or a bus to go to the city centre or up into the Downs.
We must also take into account pedestrians walking around neighbourhoods and shopping centres.
This debate is too important to become clogged like our traffic, so let's search for sensible solutions that suit most people.
Congestion charging introduced to Brighton and Hove would not solve the problem.
-Ken Bodfish, Leader of Brighton and Hove City Council
