The good news for older people is men between 60 and 65, as well as women, will from April, have a right to cut-price bus travel.
But the bad news is because so many men will join the elderly concessionairies, Brighton and Hove Buses have had to impose a restriction.
Older people will no longer be able to use their passes before nine in the morning.
That won't affect the majority who have no wish to travel in the morning peak. But a substantial minority will have to pay.
The bus company can hardly be blamed for wanting to balance its books and it already operates cheaper fares than almost anywhere else in the south.
It's down to local councils to offer the sort of concessions which are commonplace in London and many areas in the north.
They are always saying how much they support public transport. Here's a chance to put their money where their mouths are.
