Our pick of the week's musical must-sees - from rock and jazz to the sounds of Vienna and outer space.
NIK TURNER'S SPACE RITUAL, Concorde 2, Brighton, January 26 This posse is made up of former members of Hawkwind, the outfit whose brand of rock spanned three decades. Nik Turner has appeared on stage with Hawkwind as well as producing many solo albums and will play much of the band's old classics as well as some of his own solo material. Don't be surprised to see a theatrical performance from the man who has been known to dress in a white spacesuit and helmet. 7.30pm, £10, 01273 772770.
SPRING HEEL JACK, Corn Exchange, Brighton, January 27 UK duo Spring Heel Jack made their names as left-field pioneers of drum 'n' bass but have been edging towards adventures in the avant-garde. John Coxon, a pop producer who has worked with the likes of Marc Almond and Ashley Wales collaborated initially to create drum 'n' bass/breakbeat albums. Then Coxon and Wales took the recordings and subjected them to further studio manipulation, adding additional musicians. These days they work with jazz musicians. 8pm, 12.50/£10, 01273 709709.
INME, Concorde 2, Brighton, January 27 These three Essex teenagers have known each other for the majority of their lives and were recently talent-spotted while performing in a local pub. Two of them, singer and guitarist Dave and bassist and violinist Joe, started jamming together at the age of 11. Their vocal style has been described as full of screams and growls accompanied by soft sounds and the anger of drums, bass and guitar. Starts 8pm, £7.50, 01273 772770.
