I agree with Mrs E Knight (Letters, January 18). There are too few sports facilities for young people in Brighton and Hove to lure them away from the pubs and clubs.
I grew up in Brighton and could never understand why the council allowed the SS Brighton ice rink to be demolished.
The Brighton Tigers were world famous. Brighton and Hove needs an ice arena that could also host many other indoor sports.
However, I am surprised Mrs Knight included the cycle track at Preston Park among the facilities she believes have disappeared. The track is still there and well used.
The Sussex Cycle Racing League holds meetings every Wednesday evening from May to August, commencing at 7pm. The first meeting this year will be on May 7.
All meetings include races for under-16s as well as senior riders. Preston Park Youth Club also meets at the track and offers coaching facilities to young cyclists.
A circuit at Hove Park is also used for cycle racing during the summer months.
