Bottle bins will be installed around Worthing town centre as part of a bid to crack down on anti-social street drinking.
Police will have powers to order people carrying opened bottles of beer or spirits to place the containers in one of the eight bins or face arrest.
Before the bins are put in place, notices will be placed in the affected streets and public notices put in newspapers to ensure everybody is aware of the regulations.
Further publicity, in the form of posters, beer mats and leaflets will also be distributed to make sure the message gets across.
The cost of introducing the crackdown, overwhelmingly supported by residents who responded to a survey, is estimated at about £15,000.
It is hoped pubs and clubs may sponsor the bins.
