A woman foiled street robbers but suffered cracked ribs.
The victim, from Bexhill, was walking through an alleyway between Carfax Close and Watermill Lane, Sidley, on Sunday evening when two men came up behind her.
One tried to grab her bag from her shoulder.
The woman fell to the ground and was kicked but the men ran off in the direction of Watermill Lane when the woman, in her 30s, started screaming.
Still holding her bag, she ran to a nearby house and police and an ambulance were called.
A black Ford Escort was seen speeding away.
The victim described one of the men as thin-faced with short, brown hair. He wore a beige jacket.
