Sussex under-15s were runners-up in the national inter-county girls' championship finals at Nottingham.
They were defeated 4-1 by Yorkshire in the final.
Rachel Willmott, the national champion, swept to a 3-0 victory but Katie Hanley (Middleton), Kelly Eastment (Chichester), Katie Oxlade (Dunnings Mill, East Grinstead) and Sophie Denton (Withdean, Brighton and Hove) lost. The county pipped the hosts 3-2 in the semi-finals with Willmott and Oxlade winning. Manager Linda Willmott said: "Yorkshire have good depth."
The under-19s relegation play-off in Northumberland, involving Sussex was called off because of adverse travelling conditions.
In the boys' event at Nottingham, Sussex under-15s finished third. They beat Derbyshire 3-2 in the play-off for third place after losing 4-1 to Yorkshire in the semi-final.
Tom Pashley, from Dunnings Mill, nationally ranked No.1, won his two matches and William Newnham (The Weald, Hassocks) and Stephen Wykes (Chichester) also triumphed.
Sussex under-19s maintained premier status after beating Derbyshire 3-2 and Gloucestershire 4-1 in the relegation play-off at Cheltenham.
