Many of the people fleeing their own countries come from Iraq and Afghanistan. The conditions which caused them to do so have been largely caused by past actions of UK and US governments.

For instance, Osama bin Laden was originally trained, supported and backed by the US government in order for it to interfere in the internal affairs of Afghanistan. Saddam Hussein was backed by UK and US governments to try to stem rising pan-Arabism and socialism.

Perhaps if the UK and US ceased their policy of neo-colonialism the problems associated with people trying to obtain residence in the UK would considerably diminish.
