It came as no surprise to read that the gap in wages between the well paid and low paid has increased (The Argus, February 3), even under a Labour government.
The minimum wage, while a step in the right direction, still fails to meet the EU decency threshold of £6.75 an hour and when low-paid parents are supported by government tax credits there is no incentive for employers to take more responsibility for paying adequate wages to staff.
