Knives, a baseball bat and a handgun were used to force shop staff to open a safe.
Three members of staff at the Co-op store, in The Square, Westbourne, near Chichester, were threatened by two males who raided the store with tights over their faces.
They ordered the staff into the back of the shop and made them open a safe before leaving with cash, Lotto scratch cards, a lap top computer and cigarettes.
During the incident, at 9.50pm last night, two customers entered the shop but were able to leave and contact police.
Another person opened the door but left without entering.
One of the robbers had a blue hooded top and the other had a grey hooded top with GAP written on the chest.
Both were wearing training shoes and described as white, in their late teens or early 20s and about 5ft 7in tall.
