John Piercy secured a valuable point for Albion reserves from the penalty spot in yesterday's Avon Combination match against ten-man Wycombe Wanderers at Aylesbury.
The visitors started well with Paul Rogers and Geoff Pitcher bossing midfield, but they were forced to make a change when Chris McPhee was on the end of a strong challenge from behind by Luke Oliver and was forced to leave the field after 17 minutes and replaced by Chris Greatwick up front.
Paul McCarthy looked solid against his former club and organised Wycombe's defence well and the home side began to take control with Albion's midfield forced to chase back and defend.
Shots from Jermaine McSporran and Gavin Holligan were dealt with by Will Packham before Wycombe went in front after 35 minutes.
Darren Currie won the ball in the centre of the field and released McSporran who raced past Guy Butters before firing past Packham.
This was the signal for the Seagulls to up the tempo although Wycombe nearly doubled their lead when Holligan was denied the chance to extend the lead by a fine challenge from Butters.
Albion's pressure finally paid off on 40 minutes when a good cross from Greatwick saw keeper Williams collide with a defender as he came to collect. Rogers was shoved from behind with the goal gaping as he latched on to the loose ball and Piercy gave the keeper no chance from the resultant penalty.
Brighton started the second half brightly and Pitcher fired over from eight yards when well placed before Williams got down well at the feet of the same player when he seemed set to score.
Brighton made their second substitution on 65 minutes when Adam El-Abd replaced Dean Blackwell.
Albion continued to enjoy plenty of possession, but they were nearly caught on the break when Billy Harding brought a save from Packham with his overhead effort on 68 minutes. From the resulting corner Packham dealt well with a crisp volley from Mark Philo.
In the final ten minutes Williams was forced to save from Piercy and the former Spurs midfielder got clear of fullback Ryan Parsons with five minutes to go but was blocked as he headed towards goal. Referee Ray Lee deemed Parsons to be the last defender and showed him the red card.
Wycombe almost snatched a late winner when Harding fed Griffiths, but the youngsters hit his own team-mate Lee with keeper Packham beaten.
Albion Reserves: Packham, Hinshelwood, Harding, Blackwell (El-Abd 78), Butters, Hammond, Pitcher, Rogers, McPhee (Greatwick 17), Beck, Piercy.
