Selsey moved out of the drop zone with a 0-0 draw at second-placed Horsham YMCA but they squandered a great chance of taking all three points.
YM had Dave Oakes sent off for handball on the line five minutes from the break but Alun Morey blasted the resulting penalty well over the bar.
Selsey continued to have the better of it but were repelled by a strong rearguard action from YM who almost snatched it late on when Eddie Broadbent denied Matt Duffield.
Stuart Garrod marked his call-up to the Southwick midfield by twice heading in as his side beat Hassocks 3-0.
The Robins are slipping perilously close to the bottom three.
Tony Holden made the breakthrough after a goalless first half when Simon Funnell's cross was dropped by the keeper.
Wickers boss Sammy Donnelly said: "It was encouraging, especially as we have still got players to come back in."
Littlehampton are doomed to the drop and boss Carl Stabler expects to haul neighbours Wick down with them after the sides drew 1-1 at Crabtree Park.
Ryan Gaylor gave Marigolds a half-time lead but Jonas Templeman had a spot kick saved by Darren Pye.
That would have been the 100th league goal conceded by Wick this season but they sent striker Dave Schneider on after the break and he grabbed a deserved equaliser.
Stabler said: "We need to learn how to win. We should have taken seven points from our last three games but we have ended up with two."
Opposite number Kevin Hotston forecast a bright future for the two clubs, even if it is in the second division.
He admitted: "It's a hell of a task facing us to stay up but team spirit is great and everyone is playing for the right reasons."
Three Bridges' good run since Christmas continued as they defeated East Preston 2-1 despite being reduced to ten men for much of the second half after Stevie Roberts was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Phil Gault struck twice to put Bridges in charge at the break but EP pulled a goal back through Walker straight from the free-kick conceded by the departed Roberts and they had to weather some late pressure.
Shoreham and Chichester City drew 0-0 in a match which could have produced ten goals according to spectators while Glenn Bridgeman got the only goal of Sidlesham's 1-0 success at Hailsham.
