Ivar Ingimarsson has pledged his commitment to Albion's relegation fight, after willing them to lose.

The Icelandic international watched in horror as parent club Wolves were whipped 4-1 by the Seagulls at Withdean on Saturday.

He stayed down over the weekend and yesterday swapped his Wolves tie and blazer for Albion's training kit as he signed on a month's loan.

Ingimarsson admitted: "I wasn't happy with the result at all, because on Saturday I was still a Wolves player.

"But I am a Brighton player now and, of course, as long as I am here I will be doing my best to keep them out of trouble.

"The result surprised me because of the positions of the teams in the table but it was a very good game for Brighton and the score could have been even higher. If we carry on like that anything is possible and I am sure we can stay up."

Ingimarsson is relieved to be reunited with Steve Coppell, his manager at Brentford last season, after three months without a senior appearance for Wolves dating back to Albion's 1-1 draw at Molineux.

"I haven't been playing and we had a fantastic season at Brentford," he said. "We were unlucky not to go up, so it was easy to sign for somebody I already knew."

Coppell, pleased to have made such an adaptable addition to the squad, said:

"Ivar was the player of the year at Brentford, very steady.

"He played for me as a centre half, he has been playing for Wolves as a midfield player and I know he could do a job for Albion in either position.

"His club would like him to play in midfield but his flexibility is one of his assets. He could play anywhere and you know you would get 100 per cent."

Ingimarsson's prospects of making his full debut at Bradford on Saturday improved towards the end of his first training session when Robbie Pethick pulled out with a back injury.

Simon Rodger (neck), Dave Beasant (stomach upset) and Paul Rogers (back) were all sidelined yesterday, but injury-plagued Paul Kitson has resumed running with mystery still surrounding the precise nature of his hamstring problem.

Coppell is anxious to have Kitson available as another option up front. Bobby Zamora is on England under-21 duty tonight in Italy and Graham Barrett with the Republic of Ireland under-21's in Scotland.

Albion are also waiting on the outcome of their appeal against Gary Hart's controversial red card in the home defeat by Wimbledon a week ago.

"We are just hopeful Kits can play a part," Coppell said.

"We have to accept at this moment in time that Harty is going to be missing for three games, so we have to do something about that."
