The story on Saffie the cat (The Argus, February 5), taken in by Michael and Jane Tulley's rescue organisation and rehomed before her owners turned up a week later, illustrates the importance of cat owners having their pets microchipped.

This can be done by a vet or at many RSPCA centres and clinics.

A microchip the size of a grain of rice is inserted under the pet's skin so if it goes missing it can immediately be scanned and returned to its owner.
