A man slashed his own throat before flinging himself from the top of a tower block.
Detectives have called off a murder inquiry launched after the man's body was found by a passer-by in Elder Place, Brighton, yesterday morning.
A post-mortem examination revealed the man, in his 30s, had died of multiple injuries to his chest, neck and back.
Officers initially suspected murder after finding blood stains in a nearby flat thought to be connected with the death.
Detective Chief Inspector O'Donnell said it was possible the man had harmed himself at the address in question before making his way to Elder Place.
Dozens of workers were given the day off after police cordoned off New England House, which backs on to Elder Place, to conduct forensic tests.
Mr O'Donnell said: "It is unlikely anything happened inside the building but we cordoned it off as a matter of course."
