Controversial plans for a "wet" shelter where street drunks and drug addicts can stay overnight have been tabled by a homeless charity.
Worthing Churches Homeless Projects believes there is a need in the town for such a facility but accept there will be public concern about the hostel.
At present the Projects runs a dry hostel in Byron Road and is now seeking to enter into debate about the possibility of a wet shelter in an unspecified location.
Tony Chasteauneuf, general manager of the Projects, said the hostel would be staffed 24 hours a day.
He said: "The way up is a series of hard won small steps. The wet hostel represents one of those steps."
