Transport minister John Spellar stopped off in Crawley to tour a £33 million bus system.
Mr Spellar also joined fellow MP Laura Moffat at a conference, held at the Hawth Centre, which was organised to discuss transport policy in West Sussex.
As part of the new Fastways system in the town, modern buses have been equipped with the latest technology, which will give passengers up-to-date information on bus arrival times.
Special trackways are being dug for the buses to travel along and drivers will also have the power to change traffic lights on their approach.
Nigel Galloway, communications officer at West Sussex County Council, said: "With this new system, we aim to have one of the best transport systems in the country."
