Evelyn O'Hanlon (Letters, February 8) fails to mention the poor living standards in Cuba are almost entirely due to the blockade on Cuba imposed by its superpower neighbour, the US.

The US has taken aggressive action not only against Cuba but also Grenada, Cambodia, Libya, Vietnam, Iraq, Sierra Leone, Serbia, Nicaragua and Somalia.

Now it wants Iraq's oil and is making threats against North Korea.

No wonder there is poverty in the world when the world's richest nation is constantly engaged in imposing its will on others.
