Burglars started a fire after breaking-into an Angmering riding stables.
Several horses were in adjoining stables at Furzedown Stables in Swillage Lane but were not injured.
The fire started when raiders used cutting equipment to force open a steel storage box.
Police and fire investigation officers are carrying out inquiries into the incident which happened on Wednesday morning.
