Crawley don't expect to name their new manager for at least another week.

Chief executive Steve Duly and the board began interviewing seven candidates this week including Francis Vines who hopes to make his caretaker appointment a permanent one.

Five of the candidates are experienced non-League managers and another is a former Football League boss with non-League playing experience.

When asked if any of the candidates came from Sussex, Duly replied: "There might be."

He added: "After we've seen all seven I think we will have our man, I don't foresee the board not agreeing on our choice and having to re-advertise, although we may ask one or two back for a second interview.

"The quality of the candidates has been good and all of them would bring good attributes to the club."

Chris Kinnear ruled himself out of the running after signing a three-year contract with Margate this week but Duly says the man regarded as the favourite has not figured in their plans.

He said: "Chris did not apply and in any case it is club policy not to approach anyone who is already under contract."

Vines can improve his prospects after two defeats in four days earlier this week at home to struggling Halesowen tomorrow.

He gives on-loan midfielder Jay Tabb his debut after signing the 19-year-old from Brentford.

Defender Marc Pullan returns after representing the National Game Board XI in Belgium on Tuesday and Nigel Brake is back after suspension, but there are injury doubts over Kevin Hemsley (knee) and Neil LeBihan (ankle).
