It was interesting to read (The Argus, February 5) that the Labour government is

giving Sussex Police an extra £9.6 million in grants and plans to allow Brighton and Hove City Council to seize empty homes to tackle the housing shortage.

On other pages, I read that the Labour-led council continues to support the Albion by allowing more seats at Withdean and that a government-backed low-cost nursery is opening in Whitehawk.

Meanwhile, council tax in neighbouring Tory-led Adur is going up by 30 per cent, twice the increase in Brighton and Hove, where local tax levels will remain lower than anywhere else in Sussex.

I would remind anyone thinking of backing the Greens or the Lib Dems instead of Labour in the forthcoming elections that, if they do, they will not get a Green or Lib Dem council but a Tory one and will suffer the consequences when the Conservatives blame the Government, Europe, asylum-seekers and anyone but themselves for their mistakes over the next five years.
