I cannot believe a newspaper for local people continues to give such extensive
coverage to a small group of pro-asylum-seekers. Surely The Argus should reflect the overwhelming majority rather than a blinkered minority?
Is it any wonder Paul Ward has these views when he is paid to defend asylum-seekers? It is a sad story indeed Mr Ward has to tell about Emilie. However, it is clear the majority of asylum-seekers heading for Britain do so for economic reasons and certainly not because of our famous leaders from the past. We have the most lax laws and generous benefits.
If Mr Ward persists in making out the majority are desperate families, why are more than 80 per cent of asylum-seekers single men? And saying Britain has "a few hundred thousand" is misleading. We have accepted this amount in only the past three or four years. What about those in previous years?
People in Saltdean are not racist or bigoted. We are realists. Perhaps Mr Ward and his supporters should take a trip to Hastings and speak to the people to get the real view, not just manipulated facts from a government that has lost control of the system.
