Liquefied Petroleum Gas, or LPG, has been around for a few years but has failed to capture the public's imagination.
Only 65,000 vehicles out of about 30 million in the UK have been converted to run on the fuel.
All that may change. LPG cars are exempt from the congestion charge that started in London yesterday and may be copied by other cities.
If there is war with Iraq, drivers with LPG may also find they are spending less time queuing at the pumps.
LPG is cheaper than petrol or diesel and is much cleaner than either, which is why the Government is trying to encourage it.
One reason people have been put off is the lack of filling stations but that is starting to change.
There are great savings to be made once the initial outlay has been made and it is well worth considering.
