I thank South Central's head of communications for seeming to confirm there is no official bicycle provision in the new sliding-door carriages (Letters, February 14).
Public transport is becoming increasingly wheelchair friendly - there is even provision at unmanned train stations - thus leading to continual use of the wheelchair compartment on a reservation basis.
As old slam-door trains go out of service, there will be practically no rail provision for cyclists.
Coastway stations have platforms filled with hundreds of thousands of parked commuter bicycles because none are allowed on trains during the ever-increasing peak-time periods.
At the last public meeting of the Southern England Region rail passenger committee, a committee member demonstrated a fold-up bicycle with an integral holdall for the commuter cyclist to be able to stow on a train luggage rack.
