Is Brighton and Hove still the place to be? Yes, if you are a vandal who gets kicks from damaging other people's property with no worries about punishment or police inquiries into your whereabouts.
I parked my car in a bay for Blue Badge drivers that gave me level walking access into a church hall in Hove at 8pm on a Sunday evening.
I came back at 10pm to find the rear screen and all driver's side windows smashed. Another car had had similar treatment.
I dialled 999 - what a waste of time. I was told it was not an emergency and I should drive my car home and phone the non-emergency line in the morning, which I did and eventually got a crime number.
I have had to pay the excess on my insurance policy and will lose my no-claims bonus. I have done nothing wrong.
My car is a lawful purchase, taxed and insured. The motive was not robbery - nothing was missing - just mindless vandalism.
So, I can only conclude Hove is not the place to be and certainly not parked outside a church on Sunday.
