A woman lay bleeding in a Worthing street pleading for help after being stabbed in a nearby squat.
The 26-year-old victim needed 40 stitches after she was stabbed in the knee and also suffered slash wounds to her hands and arms as she tried to fend off blows from a knife.
The woman was today undergoing surgery on her hand at Worthing Hospital.
Police were called at 9pm last night after being alerted by a member of the public who found the woman collapsed in Thorn Road, Worthing.
Officers also found a man, aged 36, with minor stab wounds at the squat.
Two women and a man have been arrested.
