The idea of making George Street in Hove a pedestrian precinct during the day was to make it safe and pleasant for shoppers on foot.
But thanks to a city council oversight, Parking attendants are powerless to stop some people parking there all day.
It's four years since daytime parking was banned in the main shopping street of Hove and officials have only just started to take action.
When a traffic order comes into effect shortly, it will be illegal to park there but until then drivers can flout the ban.
Parking is at a premium in this part of Hove and if some drivers can take advantage of a loophole in the law they will.
The trouble is that most pedestrians naturally assume the road is car-free between 10am and 4pm and act accordingly.
They do not expect cars to be moving along there and this could easily be the cause of an accident.
The sooner parking notices are erected which make the parking ban legally enforceable the better.
Until then, the council and attendants will have to appeal to the better nature of drivers and, in a minority of cases, that will be difficult.
