A divorced computer worker from Worthing jumped to his death from a multi-storey car park, an inquest heard.
The body of Steven Parker, 46, of Goring Road, was found in the road on December 17 last year. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
At yesterday's hearing in Worthing, coroner Roger Stone ruled that Mr Parker had taken his own life after hearing of a note sent to his former partner stating "by the time you read this I will be dead".
Coroner's officer Darren Moffatt confirmed police were called to the Grafton Multi-storey Car Park, in Augusta Place, Worthing, after a body had been found behind Marks and Spencer store.
Mr Moffatt said: "Initially it was uncertain as to whether he had been struck by a vehicle or had jumped off as he had no means of identification."
Lesley Parker, 45, of Freshbrook Road, Lancing, divorced Mr Parker about eight years ago but they had maintained regular contact.
She confirmed he had become depressed three years ago when his relationship with another woman ended.
Ms Parker said: "I think it was 12 months previous (to his death) that he spoke about not wanting to live anymore."
