Big-collared comedy from Harry Hill, a "spring panto" with Neighbours' Hannah, "Angina Monologues" and an audience with ITN's Mr Politics are this week's picks.
HARRY HILL, Theatre Royal, Brighton, February 27
If you only know this funnyman from his patchy Channel 4 shows, you haven't seen him at his best. Hill's surreal brand of humour works extremely well live. Without stupid sets, costumes and puppets, the stand-up routine is forced to become sharper. The punchlines come faster, the leaps of consciousness seem more natural and his energy rubs off. Starts 7.45pm, £16.50. Call 01273 328488.
WIZARD OF OZ, Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, February 22-March 1 (not Feb 24)
Billed as a spring panto, this musical spectacular starring Rebecca Ritters - Hannah from Neighbours - arrives in Worthing just in time for half-term. This performance follows Dorothy's trip to the Emerald city and features local children as the Munchkins and the Army of Oz. Thie show combines music, comedy and fun. Various performance times, £11 (£6 Sat and Sun.) 01903 206206.
SCREAMERS, Komedia, Brighton, February 23
Former music hall singer Ida Barr, a fallen intercontinental star, is still alive but not so well and living in sheltered accommodation in Hackney. Fusing rap and r'n'b, she croons on matters of importance to her (home help and flu jabs) in a collection of ditties collectively titled The Angina Monologues. Starts 8pm, £8/6. Call 01273 647100.
AN EVENING WITH JOHN SERGEANT, Theatre Royal, Brighton, February 23
Political editor for ITV News, John has covered just about every political event in modern history. He has also appeared on Have I Got News for You, where Ian Hislop said he had been one of the funniest guests in the history of the programme. Join John as he relives his amazing life through repartee, humour and anecdote. Starts 7.45pm, £14-16.50. Call 01273 328488.
